Current statistics suggest that there is a very good chance you or someone you know will develop cancer at some point in their life. When that happens your doctor will recommend one or a combination of four things: drugs, surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. It is not likely that your physician will have much expertise in offering anything other than those therapies in the treatment of cancer. Should you find yourself in a position of having to battle cancer for either you or a loved one, it is a great idea to immerse yourself into a holistic healing program and then look extensively into alternative and complimentary therapies that have become very useful to cancer patients.
Marine drugs are just now being looked into for their therapeutic and medicinal value in treating and preventing various forms of cancer. It is being looking into more extensively for its value and potential in treating lung, prostate, colon, breast cancer and other cancers. The Center for Cancer Prevention and Drug Development, Department of Medicine, Hem-Onc Section, University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, in Oklahoma Cit y , Oklahoma states that “Though the actual components and their specific functions still remain to be investigated, most sea cucumber extracts are being studied for their anti-inflammatory functions, immunostimulatory properties, and for cancer prevention and treatment.”
There is a very good reason to look into marine and plant therapies as the University of Oklahoma Health Center has stated that “60% of approved cancer treatment drugs are of natural origin.” Natural origin means that they are therapeutic plants or marine animals that posses anti-cancer and anti-mutagenic properties that prevent, delay, and possibly cure cancer. It has been estimated that some 14,000 anti-cancer compounds have been isolated from marine plants and animals.
The sea cucumber is currently in the forefront of alternative therapeutic options for the prevention and treatment of several cancers. It is not a new discovery though as the Chinese, Koreans, Japanese, and Indonesians have been treating various disorders with sea cucumber for centuries. When a hot infusion extract was made from the sea cucumber Stichopus japonicus and tested on human colon cancer cells, the results were profound. It was shown to have significant cytotoxic effects on the human colon cancer cells viability and thus induced cellular apoptosis or in layman's terms cell death. According to the University of Oklahoma “These in vitro studies of human colon cancer cells suggest that glycosides extracted from sea cucumbers may be good anti-tumor agents for the prevention and treatment of human colon cancer."
If you or a loved one does get diagnosed with cancer it is a very good idea to get a second opinion, see a Naturopathic Doctor, N.D., and then look at new ways to view your life in a more holistic way. Holistic healing encompasses all aspects of healing by examining all of the factors that contribute to wellness and seeks to establish a more balanced way of living, in a way that supports all of the of health. Sea cucumber may well be one of the facets of healing when one is facing a diagnosis of cancer and is most certainly very promising when it comes to seeking alternative cures to cancer.
